Drew O'Connor joins Pittsburgh Penguins Nick Bonino and Casey DeSmith on Team USA.
Another face from the Pittsburgh Penguins organization is heading to Europe to represent Team USA in the 2023 IIHF World Championship.
The Penguins officially announced that forward Drew O’Connor will join Nick Bonino and Casey DeSmith as part of the tournament.
Team USA head coach David Quinn previously stated to the Athletic that Bonino and DeSmith would be a part of the team.
O’Connor is a new confirmation as Team USA officially announces their full roster ahead of the tournament which is set to begin May 12.
The 2022-23 season was O’Connor’s first big leap at the NHL level; he spent a majority of the season with the Penguins and played in 46 games.
Through those games, O’Connor had a career year in production with five goals and six assists for 11 total points.
O’Connor usually coasted around the bottom-six but was a bright spot in a rather dull part of the lineup.
This will be O’Connor’s first time representing Team USA at such a high level.
Jake Guentzel stated during locker clean out that he planned on joining Team USA, but he will miss due to injury.
Forward Alex Nylander will also participate in the World Championship, representing Team Sweden.
