PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins will play their final game of the 2023-24 season without a depth forward who they acquired just before the trade deadline.
Emil Bemstrom was absent from the morning skate on Long Island, and head coach Mike Sullivan later confirmed he will not suit up against the New York Islanders.
Bemstrom scored a huge goal in the Penguins' win over the Nashville Predators, but just before his tally, he took a hard hit against the boards. After taking the hit, Bemstrom appeared hobbled and needed a second to collect himself.
Before leaving the ice, Bemstrom scored a huge goal to give the Penguins a two-goal lead over the Predators. While on the bench, Bemstrom was talking with trainers, but he would play another shift after his goal. Bemstrom’s final shift lasted just seven seconds.
With Bemstrom not playing in the final game of the season, conditions surrounding a draft pick in his trade to Pittsburgh will not be met. If Bemstrom scored six goals to finish the season, a sixth-round pick in 2026 would be bumped to a third-rounder.
Bemstrom will finish the season with three goals with the Penguins and the sixth-round pick will not be changed.
