A reunion with the Pittsburgh Penguins seems impossible as an all-time great signs a new deal with the Minnesota Wild.

A reunion with the Pittsburgh Penguins seems impossible as an all-time great signs a new deal with the Minnesota Wild.

PITTSBURGH – Marc-Andre Fleury did a great job cementing his Hall of Fame career throughout the 2023-24 season and was celebrated by the Pittsburgh Penguins for his accomplishments. It seems as though Fleury isn’t ready to call it a career despite nearing the age of 40.

The Minnesota Wild announced they had signed Fleury to a one-year contract extension worth $2.5 million. Fleury was widely expected to hang up the pads at the end of this season, but he feels he’s got something left in the tank.

In 39 games of the 2023-24 season, Fleury put up a 17-14-5 record with a 2.98 goals against average and .895 save percentage. He and Filip Gustavsson split time between the pipes in Minnesota and they did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With one more season to play, Fleury can build on his legacy that has already been Hall of Fame worthy. In 1,024 career games played, he has a 561-329-96 record with 75 career shutouts.

Fleury reached the 1,000-game milestone in early-February and might be the last goalie to ever hit that mark. His 561 wins is also good to rank him second all-time in NHL history.

Theories have always been popular that the Penguins would one day reunite with their franchise’s best goalie. That seems unlikely with a new deal penned in Minnesota that will likely take him to the end of his career.
