The Pittsburgh Penguins have one of the greatest Russian-born players in NHL history with Evgeni Malkin.
Evgeni Malkin has been the most productive member of the Pittsburgh Penguins to start the 2023-24 season, and he is moving up the ladder of hockey history.
With his goal just under a minute into the contest against the Detroit Red Wings, Malkin not only gave the Penguins an early lead, but he claimed sole possession of third all-time in goals scored by a Russian-Born player.
Malkin passed Alexander Mogilny with his 474th career goal; Malkin tied Mogilny at 473 in the Penguins last game against the Calgary Flames.
Following tying Mogilny, Malkin jokingly said he will try and chase down Alex Ovechkin.
While Ovechkin might be out of reach, Malkin has a real chance of getting to second place by passing Sergei Fedorov.
Malkin will need just 10 more tallies to pass Fedorov who sits at 483 career goals.
That should be easy work for Malkin, especially if he can continue his torrid pace to start the 2023-24 season.
In just a few games, the Penguins have seen Malkin and new linemate Reilly Smith create a noticeable chemistry that should help Malkin remain productive all season long.
