The Pittsburgh Penguins have moved a depth forward to injured reserve.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have moved a depth forward to injured reserve.

PITTSBURGH – As expected following the announcement that he was diagnosed with a concussion, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward Jansen Harkins on injured reserve. The Penguins currently have two forwards dealing with concussions, but Harkins is the only one to be moved from the active roster.

The Penguins have also been without forward Noel Acciari for two games due to his concussion. He remains on the active roster, however. Harkins joins Matt Nieto on the Penguins’ injured reserve.

No other corresponding move like a recall has officially been announced. With Harkins on injured reserve and Acciari dealing with a concussion, the Penguins must find a solution soon. Head coach Mike Sullivan said he wasn't sure if any moves were expected.

"We're going to see how we do here day-to-day," Sullivan said. "I'm sure Kyle [Dubas] will make the necessary to give us the best roster to put on the ice."

Acciari did skate on his own before practice, but his status is still being determined. If Harkins, Acciari, and Nieto remain out, the Penguins only have 11 active forwards.

There is still time before their next game action against the Florida Panthers, which is sure to be another physical affair.

In 34 games played, Harkins has yet to score a goal with only four assists.
