The Pittsburgh Penguins helped honor Marc-Andre Fleury in celebrating his career.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t have the weekend they would have liked on the ice, but they made sure to help honor a franchise icon. Before puck drop against the Minnesota Wild, the Penguins gifted Marc-Andre Fleury a special painting to celebrate his Hall of Fame career.
The Wild celebrated Fleury for his recent achievements of surpassing 1,000 games as a goalie and capturing second all-time in NHL wins with 552. Fleury would add to his total in the game, defeating the Penguins 3-2.
Before the game, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby presented the canvas to Fleury, and the two reminisced on some of the images depicted. Pittsburgh artist Cody Sabol did the artwork that features numerous images of Fleury throughout his 20-year NHL career.
From his early days with bright yellow pads to hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2009, and imagery of each team Fleury has suited up for. The Penguins are the prominent team in the piece, with the Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, and Wild represented. Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is even featured as one of the biggest saves of Fleury’s career came against one of the greatest goal scorers of all time.
Later in the video, Penguins defenseman Kris Letang joined in to congratulate Fleury on his milestones.
As a member of the Penguins, Fleury won the Stanley Cup three times and set the standard for goaltending in Pittsburgh. With the Golden Knights, he helped lead them to a Cup Final appearance in their first year of existence. He later went on to win his first career Vezina Trophy with the Golden Knights. Fleury’s time with the Blackhawks was short-lived, but he eclipsed 500 wins in their iconic uniform. The Wild have seen the possible twilight years of Fleury’s career but mostly got to play host to two of the most significant accomplishments of his career.
