One of the greats with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Jaromir Jagr's legend goes beyond his time in the NHL.
PITTSBURGH – Jaromir Jagr will soon have his number retired by the Pittsburgh Penguins, but before we can get to that ceremony, he has another achievement to put on his resume. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced that Jagr is among the inductees for their Hall of Fame class of 2024.
The IIHF Hall of Fame puts a great focus on what players and coaches were able to accomplish during international play and how well they grew the game of hockey in their native countries. Jagr, a native of Czechia, is still playing professionally in his home country at the age of 51. He also laced up to represent Czechia on the international stage on numerous occasions, winning 10 total medals, including three golds.
Jagr participating in five Olympic games capturing gold in 1998. He also won a pair of IIHF World Championship gold medals representing Czechia in 2005 and 2010.
That 1998 Olympic team is also being honored by the IIHF with the Milestone Award that hasn’t been handed out since 2013.
Jagr’s accomplishments in the NHL are also recognized by the IIHF, so his 1,921 points (766G-1,155A) and two Stanley Cup rings with the Penguins go a long way.
The IIHF will honor Jagr and the rest of the new inductees at the 2024 World Championship, set to take place in Jagr’s native Czechia in May.
Jagr may still have to wait for a call from the Hockey Hall of Fame, but his legend will live on in more ways than one all over the world.
