Penguins Newest Player Brings Pittsburgh Connection

Colin White made his Pittsburgh Penguins debut but already brings with him a connection to the city.

The Pittsburgh Penguins power play is ranked 11th in the NHL since early December.

PITTSBURGH – Colin White is a veteran of nearly 300 games in the NHL and recently made a run to the Stanley Cup Final but is coming off of his debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins. White may have only played 7:21 but it was a debut with a team he’s always had a connection to.

As a child, White grew up a fan of Mario Lemieux and the Penguins, and that’s all thanks to his family. White’s parents are from the Upper St. Clair area and his grandparents still reside in the neighborhood.

White noted that the organization’s rich history and positive culture helped make the decision to sign with the Penguins, and his family certainly weren’t disappointed with the choice.

“They were super excited,” White said. “My grandpa’s always texting me. Now that I’m here he’s asking me to come watch NFL football.”

White is a Boston native and grew up playing hockey in the Massachusetts area, but should feel right at home in Pittsburgh. Over his 293-game career, White has fared pretty well against the Penguins, scoring a pair of goals and three assists in nine games.

Now sharing a locker room with guys like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, White hopes he can bring that kind of help to the Penguins.

“Every time you play against them, they’re a hard team to play against,” White said. “Getting to be on that side now is pretty cool. They’re great guys in the room, too. They’ve made it pretty easy for me.”

White’s spot in the lineup isn’t set in stone, but with a few injuries to forwards in the Penguins lineup, he might stick around for some time.
