A veteran forward will return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup after four games away with an injury.
PITTSBURGH – For the first time in four games, Pittsburgh Penguins veteran forward Jeff Carter will return to the lineup. Carter has been away from the ice due to an upper-body injury.
Carter stated that he was making progress ahead of the contest against the Carolina Hurricanes and Mike Sullivan listed him as a game-time decision but he didn’t suit up. Now, against the Blue Jackets, Carter will return to his usual fourth line right wing position.
With Carter’s return, Jonathan Gruden has been healthy scratched after being a physical presence against the Hurricanes.
Gruden was among the couple of recalls the Penguins made to fill a void left by Carter and Noel Acciari. The other notable name was Sam Poulin, who will remain in the lineup as the fourth-line center.
Jesse Puljujariv has been a usual healthy scratch in place of Carter, but he will also stick in the lineup and transition to the left wing on the fourth line.
With the games winding down on the season, there is a real chance this could be the final weeks of Carter's NHL career. He hasn't made a decision on his future, but retirement is very possible for the 39-year-old.
