The Pittsburgh Penguins, now led by Kyle Dubas, will meet the Toronto Maple Leafs for the first time in the 2023-24 season.
For the first time since joining the Pittsburgh Penguins as president of hockey operations and general manager, Kyle Dubas will see his team face off against he Toronto Maple Leafs.
Before being picked up by the Penguins, Dubas spent nine years with the Maple Leafs, five of them as their general manager.
Dubas is still under 40-years-old and has an extremely long future ahead of him in NHL front offices, but Toronto is where he got his start.
Over the nine years with the Maple Leafs, Dubas helped rebuild that organization into one of the most threatening and successful regular season teams in the NHL.
Dubas helped fill the Maple Leafs lineup with multiple notable stars and skilled players.
In his five years as general manager, Dubas went a perfect five for five in reaching the postseason, but only won one round.
Dubas’ departure from Toronto was less than spectacular and pretty well documented over this past summer.
After losing in the second round of the postseason, Dubas stated he wanted to stay with the Maple Leafs or not be with a team at all.
The Maple Leafs responded to that quote by firing him, all but forcing him to change his mind.
Fenway Sports Group swooped in and hired Dubas with a lengthy contract to follow.
Without Dubas, the Maple Leafs wouldn’t look anywhere near the way they do now and the Penguins are still waiting to see if his first summer in Pittsburgh was a successful one.
