The Pittsburgh Penguins finished their contest against the Philadelphia Flyers down a key forward.
PITTSBURGH – Bryan Rust has been one of the most important Pittsburgh Penguins over the last few weeks, scoring eight points in his last 10 games. After putting up two goals and an assist against the Philadelphia Flyers, Rust was an early exit from the match.
Rust collided with a pair of Flyers in open ice early in the third period and went straight down the runway. Looking to be favoring his arm, Rust did not return to the contest the Penguins eventually won 7-6.
Following the contest, head coach Mike Sullivan stated Rust was being evaluated for an upper-body injury. The Penguins are preparing to depart for a Western Canada road trip, and it wasn’t immediately clear if Rust would be able to travel with the team.
“Right now, he’s being evaluated for an upper-body injury,” Sullivan said. “We’ll see after his evaluation if he travels or not.”
The Penguins are already down a huge component to their success with Jake Guentzel on the shelf, and if Rust is also going down, that will only make their push for the playoffs tougher.
Rust is in the middle of a fabulous season with 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 total points in 42 games played. The Penguins might be a selling team at the deadline, but if they decide to make a run, Rust will be a massively important piece.
