The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the midst of their coldest streak of the year, and their lack of scoring shows it.
PITTSBURGH – With under 20 games remaining, the Pittsburgh Penguins 2023-24 season is quickly turning into a disaster. The chances of making the playoffs are hitting near-impossible odds, while the core group has fallen off the face of the Earth in terms of production.
Not only the core but the rest of the Penguins lineup has been unable to score in the last handful of games. The numbers (or lack thereof) coming out of Pittsburgh have been staggering.
Since embarking on their final western road trip of the season, the Penguins are 2-6-1 while being outscored 35-15. Three of those losses have been shutouts, and in their most recent four games, they’ve only scored two goals.
The Penguins are out-shooting their opponents, hitting 35+ shots on goal in five games during this poor stretch. The finishing ability and scoring have completely evaporated, as they have only notched two goals in their last 288 shot attempts.
Head coach Mike Sullivan continues to preach that the Penguins are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Riding a dreadful stretch where no one on the roster can score, those chances are slim and growing slimmer with each passing scoreless period.
If Sullivan really believes the Penguins can go on some magical storybook run, they’ll need the scoring to wake up big time.
