PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins showed a great deal of confidence in their goaltending depth when they traded away Magnus Hellberg at the deadline. In return, the Penguins acquired 27-year-old Ludovic Waeber from the Florida Panthers, but he wasn’t expected to jump up the depth chart.

After four games with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barrre/Scranton Penguins, Waeber heading back to his native Switzerland to continue his playing career. Ludovic has signed a two-year deal with EHC Kloten of the Swiss National League.

Waeber started the 2023-24 season win the Panthers system playing at the AHL and ECHL level. With the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, Waeber put up a 6-6-0 record. In his four games with the Penguins, he went 3-1-0 and tacked on a shutout.

Waeber was an upcoming restricted free agent with the Penguins. He may not have been a viable option, but losing Waeber makes the Penguins a little thinner in terms of goalie depth.
