The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced a depth forward is being evaluated for another injury.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins watched a 4-0 lead evaporate against the Colorado Avalanche and had to finish the game short-handed. During the third period, the Penguins tweeted that forward Noel Acciari would not return to the contest.
Following the Penguins crushing defeat, head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that Acciari was being evaluated for a lower-body injury.
Acciari played just eight shifts against the Avalanche, recording under five minutes of ice time.
In his first season with the Penguins, Acciari has been a solid defensive center for the bottom six, but he’s dealt with multiple unfortunate injuries. Through 70 games of the 2023-24 season, Acciari has played in just 55.
Through his 55 games, Acciari has four goals and three assists for seven total points. When in the lineup, he’s a key factor on the penalty kill and on the defensive side of the puck.
It is unclear how long Acciari will be on the shelf at the moment, but the Penguins are already down a depth forward. Jeff Carter has missed three straight games with an upper-body injury.
Carter has been listed as day-to-day and may be able to return for the Penguins next contest against the Carolina Hurricanes.
