Penguins Lose Trade Partner for Jake Guentzel

Another team has likely fallen out of the race to acquire Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

PITTSBURGH – The chances of the Pittsburgh Penguins trading Jake Guentzel are essentially 100% as the deadline closes in. However, the real question remains: where will the Penguins send him?

As many as seven teams have been rumored to be in on the Penguins’ winger, and not many have fallen out of the race. However, One team that may have fallen out of contention is Guentzel’s preferred destination.

According to Elliotte Friedman on the Jeff Marek Show, the Vancouver Canucks may have shifted their focus elsewhere.

“I think they tried on Guentzel,” Friedman said. “I don’t think that they believe they can win it. But they tried. I think they’re going to be one of the teams that’s in big for [Tyler] Toffoli.”

The Penguins have kept their asking price high for Guentzel and don’t plan on budging. The Canucks took a hard run at Guentzel but probably didn’t want to give up what the Penguins have been asking for.

Penguins’ president and general manager Kyle Dubas has had his eyes on high-level prospects rather than draft picks in exchange for Guentzel. It’s possible the Canucks aren’t willing to give up what the Penguins are asking for.

With the Canucks possibly out of the conversation, the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights, and New York Rangers are some of the leading teams to focus on as possible landing spots.
