    Penguins Trading Jake Guentzel Inevitable

It's just a matter of time before a deal is in place where the Pittsburgh Penguins trade away Jake Guentzel.

The Pittsburgh Penguins need to find out what they have in a few young prospects following the NHL trade deadline.

PITTSBURGH – The NHL trade deadline is just over a day away, and the Pittsburgh Penguins still possess one of the biggest targets on the market. Following a day when a move was expected, Jake Guentzel remains with the Penguins.

Guentzel is currently on the Penguins’ long-term injured reserve list but has been taking skates with his teammates. Guetnzel took part in the Penguins’ full-team morning skate for the second straight game day.

Guentzel is expected to return to gameplay on March 10, two days after the trade deadline, so he is keeping loose with the Penguins. His hours in Pittsburgh are likely numbered, however, as a trade seems imminent.

According to Josh Yohe of the Athletic, a Guetnzel trade is just about guaranteed; it’s just a matter of when and where to.

“I’ve been told that it’s essentially inevitable that Guentzel will be traded,” Yohe wrote. “That’s been the word for weeks, and that comes from Guentzel’s camp, from sources within the Penguins organization and sources around the NHL.”

Yohe noted that no contract negotiations have occurred between the Penguins and Guentzel’s camp.

The sentiment of inevitability laid out by Yohe tracks with what a source has told Inside the Penguins; a deal is just about guaranteed.

The Penguins will have to keep those distractions out of sight and out of mind as they still firmly believe they can battle for a playoff spot. They sit eight points out of a playoff spot and will need to catch fire for an outside chance of reaching the dance.

Teams like the Vancouver Canucks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Carolina Hurricanes are all reportedly still in the auction for Guentzel. President and general manager Kyle Dubas is doing all he can to get the most significant and most ideal return possible.
