The Pittsburgh Penguins are turning their season around with the hottest stretch in the NHL heading into 2024.

When president and general manager Kyle Dubas last spoke to the media, the Pittsburgh Penguins were riding a four-game losing streak and closer to last in the league than a playoff spot.

As the year turns to 2024, the Penguins look like one of the hottest teams in the league.

No team in the league has more points than the Penguins since December 12; they hold a 7-1-1 record with 15 standings points which tops the NHL.

The Penguins are also 7-2-1 in their last 10 games which is the best run in the Eastern Conference.

Their stretch has earned them a total of 40 standings points on the season and sits them in a three-way tie just a single point out of the Eastern Conference wild card.

With 40 points, the Penguins are tied with the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils as the first team out.

The Tampa Bay Lightning hold the second wild card spot with just 41 points and an 18-15-5 record.

Through their run, the Penguins have beaten multiple crucial opponents including the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders twice.

The Penguins’ will look to keep their run alive in the new year and hope to make the jump into the postseason with a contest against the Capitals.

It’s the second part in a pair of the Penguins’ most important games of the season and it could carry a ton of weight in the long run of the season.

The Penguins enter January after a hot end to December and an overall successful month with a 7-3-3 record.
