When Phil Kessel was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he was a fan favorite, but he's still looking for a new team.
When Phil Kessel was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins he had some of the best years of his career, but he hasn’t had the same luck since leaving.
After being an integral part of the Penguins back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 2016 and 2017, Kessel is yet to find a team for the 2023-24 season.
The NHL’s current Iron Man stated after winning his third Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights that he planned on continuing playing.
Despite the desperation to play, Kessel has yet to find a home and the season has kicked off without him.
Soon enough, however, it seems like Kessel will sign a new deal; according to David Pagnotta, Kessel has a pair of teams with interest.
While the interest is there, Kessel must wait for these teams to create the cap space to bring him in; Pagnotta does not say which teams are expressing their interest.
Kessel has stated before that he is willing to let his games played streak come to an end, he just wants to be on a team.
If he does make it on to an NHL roster, however, Kessel will likely be looking to reach 1,000 career points.
In 1,286 career games played, Kessel has recorded 413 goals and 579 assists for 992 total points.
When Kessel finds a new team, he’s going to want those eight points.
