The Pittsburgh Penguins are returning to health and more roster moves are expected.
With the Pittsburgh Penguins slowly returning to health, that forces the hand of expected roster moves.
As part of the transition to health, the Penguins have placed defenseman Ryan Shea on waivers with the likely expectation he will be sent to the American Hockey League.
With Shea on waivers, it seems more than likely that defenseman Chad Ruhwedel will return to the lineup after being taken off of injured reserve.
Before this season, Shea had never played a game in the NHL and the Penguins gave him an opportunity.
Shea earned a role in the Penguins lineup through a solid camp and preseason, but after 22 games, his chance may have come to an end.
In those 22 games, Shea has not recorded a point and is minus-2 while riding on the third pairing.
The Penguins have numerous NHL-level options making Shea’s position in the NHL expendable.
Teams across the NHL now have a chance to claim Shea and take him for their own.
