Jonathan Gruden will get another shot at the NHL with a recall to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Jonathan Gruden from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Gruden will join the Penguins who are set to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus.

This move comes a day after head coach Mike Sullivan announced that veteran forward Jeff Carter was dealing with an upper-body injury.

Carter missed the game against the Buffalo Sabres despite taking part in the morning skate prior to that contest.

While the Penguins were on the their California road trip, Carter was a healthy scratch for two of the three games.

Gruden was a recall for three NHL games during the 2022-23 season and did not score a point while averaging 5:20 of ice time.

In 12 games at the AHL level this season, Gruden has racked up three points with a goal and two assists.

Recent recall Vinnie Hinostroza took the place of Carter in the lineup, and is still on the NHL roster.
