All-time Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tom Barrasso is officially among the greats as a Hall of Famer.

All-time Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tom Barrasso is officially among the greats as a Hall of Famer.

Before Marc-Andre Fleury came along and set the standard for goaltending, the best netminder in Pittsburgh Penguins franchise history was clearly Tom Barrasso.

In his 12 seasons with the Penguins, Barrasso set every goaltending record and played a huge role in winning the Stanley Cup back-to-back years in 1991 and 1992.

Not to mention, Barrasso set a franchise record with 43 wins the following season to claim the organization’s only President’s Trophy.

After years of waiting, Barrasso was finally honored and officially inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The 2023 class was goalie heavy with Barrasso, Mike Vernon, and ‘The King’ Henrik Lundqvist.

For Barrasso, his play in 19 NHL seasons more than earned him a spot in the Hall.

Prior to his accomplishments with the Penguins, Barrasso began his career as an 18-year-old with the Buffalo Sabres.

Barrasso jumped straight from high school to the NHL and was immediately one of the best netminders in the NHL.

In his first season, Barrasso took home the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie and the Vezina Trophy as league’s best goalie.

Barrasso would finish as a Vezina finalist four more times, three of which with the Penguins.

With a career record of 396-277-86, Barrasso is the fourth all-time leader in wins by an American born goalie.

Barrasso is also the all-time leader in points by a goalie with 48; one more than Martin Brodeur and Grant Fuhr.

It was a long wait for Barrasso, but a well deserved honor; he will be remembered forever not just as a great goalie with the Penguins, but one of the best as a true Hockey Hall of Famer.
