Reilly Smith will not return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins allowed three goals in the opening period to the Vancouver Canucks but will be without a key forward for the rest of the contest. At the start of the second frame, the Penguins announced that Reilly Smith would not return for the remainder of the contest.
Smith took a hit in the first period and seemed to favor his arm or wrist as he skated off the ice and eventually down to the locker room. He did return for a shift but did not join the team after intermission.
Smith has struggled quite a bit this season and is due for a break out against a Canucks team he usually does very well against, but he won’t get that chance.
The Penguins entered the second period with Tristan Jarry in goal replacing Alex Nedeljkovic and not long into the frame forward Noel Acciari blocked a shot that left him hampered, but he stayed in the game.
Smith is out of the contest after just four shifts and 3:08 of ice time.
