The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially put an end to Mark Pysyk's time with the organization.
The Mark Pysyk experiment has officially come to a close for the Pittsburgh Penguins as their AHL affiliate have released him from his professional tryout contract.
Pysyk signed a PTO with the Penguins prior to the start of training camp, but an early injury disrupted his possibility of making the team.
After fully recovering, Pysyk was sent to the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins where he signed another PTO.
While in WBS, things continued to not work out for the defenseman as in eight games he recorded no points and was a minus-3.
Pysyk entered training camp with the Penguins with a real chance of making the team and being a commanding presence on the third pairing, but clearly things haven’t worked out.
The initial lower-body injury threw everything off course at an early date and he just hasn’t been able to find his footing.
The Penguins have also accumulated a few more viable options for depth defenseman at the NHL level that Pysyk became expendable.
Over his 10 years in the NHL, Pysyk appeared in 521 games recording 28 goals and 76 assists from the blue line.
