The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without one of their highest paid defenders for the rest of the season.
PITTSBURGH – It’s been a rough first year for Ryan Graves with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it looks to be coming to an abrupt and early end. Graves missed the previous six games with a concussion, but the Penguins moved him to injured reserve.
The NHL Media Site lists Graves on injured reserve, and according to Trib Sport’s Seth Rorabaugh, it’s a long-term designation.
With Graves moved to LTIR, he will not return to the Penguins lineup for the remainder of the season.
Long-term injured reserve rules state that a player must miss at least 10 games and 24 days of the season. Graves hasn’t laced up skates since the March 28 contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Graves will finish his season with 70 games played and 14 total points (3G-11A).
The Penguins are now without Graves and Noel Acciari for the remainder of the regular season due to injuries. If the Penguins find their way into the postseason, both players will be eligible to return during the first round.
Graves is in the first year of a six-year contract that earns him $4.5 million annually.
