Ryan Shea is set to make his NHL debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins against the St. Louis Blues.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to play their fifth game of the 2023-24 season and they are ready to make some changes in the lineup.
It was announced prior to the Penguins match against the St. Louis Blue that defenseman Ryan Shea will slot into the lineup and make his NHL debut.
Shea is taking the place of P.O. Joseph on the left side of the third defensive pairing.
The third pair of Joseph and Chad Ruhwedel has struggled to start the year playing a part in the Penguins roller coaster 2-2-0 record.
Shea is a 26-year-old defenseman who has spent that last three seasons with the Dallas Stars’ AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars.
During his time at the AHL level, Shea recorded 66 points in 163 games played.
The Penguins signed Shea to a one-year contract this past summer and impressed in training camp enough to never be cut from the roster.
Shea says his focus is to play his game and make the most of the little ice time he may have considering the strength of the Penguins top two defensive pairs.
