The Pittsburgh Penguins saw history not only from their goalie, but also captain Sidney Crosby,
Tristan Jarry wasn’t the only player to make history in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ season-shifting win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Lost in the chaos was when Sidney Crosby opened the scoring for the Penguins, he moved into 25th place in that all-time goals list.
Now tied with Joe Nieuwendyk at 564, Crosby is adding to his Hall of Fame resume and is within striking distance of multiple other names.
All-time games played leader, and briefly a teammate, Patrick Marleau is just two ahead with 566.
One of the most consistent goal scorers ever in Mike Bossy is a few more ahead with 573.
The player who scored on Crosby’s first career point and assisted on his first career goal, Mark Recchi, isn’t much further ahead at 577.
The latter two names are already in the Hockey Hall of Fame and Marleau is surely on his way.
Even at the age of 36, Crosby isn’t showing visible signs of slowing down and has legitimate chances of surpassing numerous career milestones and climbing lists like this one.
In 1,212 career games, Crosby has recorded 564 goals (good for tied for 24th all time), 963 assists (15th all time), and 1,527 points (15th all time).
More recently, as Crosby continues to ward off Father Time, there has been real discussion regarding him chasing down 2,000 career points.
That number would make him the highest producing Penguins of all time and place him second in NHL history behind only Wayne Gretzky.
In 19 his 19th year, Crosby is yet to put up a season under a point per game, and that streak doesn’t seem to be ending in 2023-24.
Crosby has put the Penguins on his back through 22 games with 14 goals, 11 assists, and 25 points.
