PITTSBURGH – Sidney Crosby may be in year 19 of his legendary NHL career, but the Pittsburgh Penguins captain still carries quite a bit of control in the hockey world. Entering the league in 2005, Crosby has long been the face of the NHL and is still one of the best players around.

According to the Hockey News, Crosby is still one of the most powerful figures in hockey, ranking him 13th out of the ‘100 most powerful and influential people in hockey.’ The list is stacked with insiders, agents, players, and executives, and Crosby is one of the highest-ranked players.

"Crosby’s statesmanlike approach to life on and off the ice has made him a multi-generational role model," wrote the Hockey News. "Even rival fan bases must begrudgingly admit the gift he’s been to the game."

The only players ranked above Crosby were Auston Matthews (5) and Connor McDavid (9). Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, ranked 10th.

This is also far from Crosby’s first time appearing on the Hockey News’ list of most influential people. In the 25 years that the publication has released this list, Crosby has been the highest-ranked active player ever. Crosby finished 10th overall on that anniversary list, with Wayne Gretzky being the only player to slot ahead of him at 4th.

In his nearly 20-year career, Crosby has been a clear choice as one of the most influential players, both in NHL circles and in growing the sport of hockey. Within the league, he’s long been looked at as one of the best players to lace up a pair of skates. Approaching some all-time records and climbing scoring lists, Crosby is cementing his spot as one of the all-time greats in hockey.

What might be more important than his accomplishments on the ice, however, is his ability to put more eyes on the sport and be a true hero to so many young kids. It’s nearly impossible to find a youth hockey club in the Pittsburgh area that doesn’t have a player wearing No. 87.

Crosby has spread hockey all over the globe, and as he heads into his late 30s, he’s still one of the most popular names in the sport.
