Report: Penguins Starting Search for Lineup Upgrades

According to a new report, the Kyle Dubas has started looking for options to improve the Pittsburgh Penguins depth.

Pittsburgh Penguins left wing Jake Guentzel looking to build off power play's 2 for 5 night against the Arizona Coyotes.

In his first few months as president and general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Kyle Dubas has already made quite a few changes to the team’s on-ice personnel.

Dubas almost completely revamped the bottom six forward group, added numerous names to depth at every position, and made one of the biggest trades in Penguins’ history.

Adding Erik Karlsson to the blue line was Dubas’ first huge move with the club and with the season in full swing, more moves could be right around the corner.

The Penguins haven’t been pleased with their performance through the first 27 games of the season and Dubas seems to have started his search for help.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, Dubas is looking for options that can bolster the Penguins’ bottom six forwards and third pairing defenders.

Dubas addressed these areas when speaking with the media stating that any depth issues fall on his shoulders, and he’ll look for other options if things aren’t working out.

Dubas also mentioned that he is hopeful one of the various third pairing defensive options run with the opportunities they are being given.

A viable trade option among the depth defenders is P.O. Joseph who put together a solid performance in his return to the lineup.

It’s clear that Dubas wants to improve the Penguins’ NHL depth not only by taking blame, but also being proactive and already bringing in an option via free agent tryout.

Jesse Puljujarvi has arrived in Pittsburgh and is beginning the process of likely earning a role in the Penguins’ bottom six.

Even with Puljujarvi brought into the fold, the Penguins still have plenty of room to improve and Dubas seems ready to make a few more calls around the league.
