PITTSBURGH – The NHL has announced a new animated multi-cast contest between the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche that will have some Pittsburgh Penguins flair to it. Penguins’ radio voice Steve Mears will be joined by Colby Armstrong on the call for the “MultiVersus NHL Face-Off.”

TNT Sports, Warner Bros. Games, and the NHL have collaborated to present a new real-time animated hockey broadcast. The Penguins participated in the second annual “Big City Greens Classic” on ESPN/Disney earlier this year.

This time, in a contest between the Golden Knights and Avalanche, popular characters like Bugs Bunny, Batman, Wonder Woman, Shaggy, and many more will play alongside animated versions of NHL players. Mears and Armstrong will have the call of the animated game exclusively on TruTV and Max’s B/R Sports Add-on.

Prior to the 2023-24 season, Mears was announced as the play-by-play voice for the Penguins Radio Network. After six seasons on television, Mears moved to the radio booth and has had a rotating cast of color commentators.

Armstrong has been in that rotation in his first season calling games with the Penguins. Armstrong has rotated between radio and TV on color commentary with Phil Bourque and Mike Rupp.

The Multiversus NHL Face-Off is set for April 14 as the race for the 2024 Playoffs heats up.
