The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned a forward to recall a defenseman from the American Hockey League.

PITTSBURGH – Before heading out West for a brief two-game road trip, the Pittsburgh Penguins have swapped skaters with their AHL affiliate. Prior to the start of practice, the Penguins announced that they had recalled defenseman Jack St. Ivany and re-assigned forward Jonathan Gruden.

St. Ivany was previously recalled to the NHL roster for a pair of games, but he was healthy and scratched both times. He's still looking for his NHL debut. He’s done great work on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton blue line, earning his way to an NHL roster spot.

Gruden was brought back to the NHL lineup to fill in for an injured Jeff Carter against the New Jersey Devils. Gruden played 6:41 in the 5-2 loss in New Jersey.

Head coach Mike Sullivan stated Carter would be listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Carter skated with Gruden and AHL defenseman Ryan Shea before a full-team practice.

In 12 games played this season, Gruden has scored a goal and averaged 8:39 of ice time. St. Ivany is still looking for his NHL debut, but has notched 15 points in 53 games with WBS. St. Ivany was also present for the practice.
