The Pittsburgh Penguins have moved a depth defender to the New York Rangers.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have kicked off a trade deadline practice, and there was a noticeable absence. Defenseman Chad Ruhwedel was not on the ice, and soon after the first drill, the Penguins announced a trade.
The Penguins announced that they traded Ruhwedel to the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.
Ruhwedel had spent 326 career games with the Penguins over eight seasons. A steady hand on the blue line, Ruhwedel recorded 13 goals and 34 assists as a usual suspect on the Penguins’ third pairing.
During his time with the Penguins, Ruhwedel excelled in being a reliable defender and was able to fly in and out of the lineup while remaining consistent. He heads to a Rangers team that has a real chance of going on a deep playoff run this Spring.
