The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the cusp of postseason hockey and outsiders are starting to believe.
PITTSBURGH – P.K. Subban hasn’t been kind to the Pittsburgh Penguins or their decision-making this season, but with the playoffs within reach, he believes it’s their time to strike. Subban joined the Pat McAfee show and discussed how he thinks the Penguins will make a return to the postseason.
The Penguins are just one point out of the Eastern Conference’s second wild card spot and have four games left. Their next contest against the Detroit Red Wings is arguably the most important.
Subban understands the Penguins have a hard schedule, but it isn’t about the teams on the ledger.
“The Penguins probably have the toughest schedule,” Subban said. “For me, right now… it’s not so much about who you’re playing, but how you are playing as a team.”
The Penguins are carrying a nine-game point streak into their battle with the Red Wings and key players are stepping up just in time. Sidney Crosby looks like an MVP again, Evgeni Malkin has turned back the clock, and Erik Karlsson has flipped a switch.
“The way Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are playing right now, I would not want to see them down the stretch,” Subban said. “I think they’re going to will Pittsburgh to the playoffs. I think they’re going to be there.”
Subban believes the Penguins can overcome the odds and cap off their unprecedented run with a playoff berth.
It won’t be an easy run and things still seem unlikely, but the Penguins are getting hot at the right time. The players never lost hope, and pundits are starting to believe in this team.
