This former Penguins forward is reportedly signing a PTO with the Flames.
A former Pittsburgh Penguins is reportedly getting a shot from the Calgary Flames.
According to PuckPedia, the Flames are expected to sign forward Alex Nylander to a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.
Nylander spent this past season with the Toronto Marlies. In 65 games with the AHL club, the former Penguins forward posted 24 goals, 29 assists, and 53 points. He also appeared in 24 playoff games for the Marlies during their Calder Cup championship run, recording six goals and seven points.
Nylander last played at the NHL level during the 2024-25 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he recorded zero points and four penalty minutes.
The Penguins acquired Nylander from the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2021-22 season in exchange for forward Sam Lafferty. From there, Nylander appeared in 14 games over two seasons with Pittsburgh, where he posted one goal and one assist.
Nylander spent the bulk of his time with the Penguins organization down in the AHL. In 142 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over three seasons, he recorded 56 goals and 112 points.
Nylander's time with the Penguins ended during the 2023-24 season when he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
