Team Canada continues to assert its dominance at the IIHF Men's World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden.
On Thursday, the Canadians defeated Team Austria, 5-1, to remain one of only two undefeated teams at the tournament (with Sweden being the other). Canada is now 4-0-0 and have scored a tournament-leading 21 goals in those four games.
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby added his second goal of the tournament and now has five points in four games. Fellow Nova Scotian Nathan MacKinnon put forth yet another dominant effort as well, registering two goals and three points on the evening to give him a team-leading fourth goal and eighth point.
Veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury earned his second win of the tournament, stopping 15 of 16 Austrian shots on goal.
For the second time in as many games for Fleury, the opposing team had the early lead. Austria's Vinzenz Rohrer opened the scoring midway through the first period to put his team up, 1-0, and that held into first intermission.
But then - as they have in second periods during this tournament - Canada just took over from there.
MacKinnon scored a power play goal a tick under two minutes into the middle frame, and he lit the lamp for the second time later in the period when he blasted a one-timer from the left circle.
Then, in the third, Travis Konecny - Crosby's linemate - added his third goal of the tournament from New York Rangers pending-RFA forward Will Cuylle to make it 3-1. A few minutes later, the situation was reversed, as Konecny teed up Cuylle in the left circle for a one-time rocket.
To put the icing on the cake, Crosby potted one off the rush blocker-side with less than two minutes left in regulation to give Canada the 5-1 win.
Next up for Canada will be Slovakia (2-1-1) on Saturday at 2:20 EDT.
