Bryan Rust Scores GWG for Penguins in 500th Game

The Pittsburgh Penguins had plenty of celebrating to do against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are desperate for someone to break through in their bottom six. Who could be the catalyst that sparks that part of the lineup?

PITTSBURGH - Kris Letang wasn’t the only member of the Pittsburgh Penguins celebrating a games-played milestone in the win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Bryan Rust not only eclipsed the 500 games mark, but he made it count by recording the Penguins’ game winning goal.

“500 games is a lot of games,” Rust said. “Obviously it’s not 1,000 but it’s quite a few games in this league.”

While the night was dedicated to Letang and his 1,000th NHL game, Rust did what he could to make it a positive one for everyone.

Entering this past weekend, Rust was struggling offensively only scoring an empty net goal and three assists over 14 games.

In the Penguins back-to-back over the weekend, Rust scored three goals including the game winner over the Flyers.

Reaching 500 games is no small accomplishment, either and Rust has made the most of his time in the NHL.

“If you would have told me I would have made 500 when I had my first NHL game I’m not sure I would have believed you,” Rust said. “It’s something that’s really special to me.”

Over his 500-game career, Rust has scored 143 goals and 172 assists for 315 points.

More important than the milestones shared by Rust and Letang, the Penguins got a much needed win as the playoffs step closer and the Penguins are still fighting for life.
