The four players currently out of the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup are expected to return before the start of the postseason.
PITTSBURGH - Not long after the NHL trade deadline, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost a number of key players to injuries, forcing modifications to the lineup.
A majority of the injuries centered around the Penguins blue line, and the defense has done everything in its power to stay consistent.
Defensmen Marcus Pettersson, Dmitry Kulikov, and Jan Rutta and forward Nick Bonino have all missed lengthy amounts of time with various injuries.
Pettersson (lower-body), Kulikov (lower-body), and Bonino (lacerated kidney) were all been placed on long-term injured reserve and should be nearing respective returns.
Rutta (lower-body) was not removed from the active roster during his time away.
All of the injured players, however, are nearing a return and their progress is showing; according to head coach Mike Sullivan, all of the injured players have been on the ice.
“They all skated this morning,” Sullivan said. “They’re all making progress. That was part of the planned rehab process.”
When asked if any or all of the injured players would return to the ice for game action during the regular season, Sullivan simply said ‘yes.’
There are six games remaining on the Penguins schedule, and none of them are slated for a return against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Penguins are hopeful that within the final five games of the regular season slate, they once again have a fully-healthy roster.
