Penguins Go All Out to Honor Kris Letang's 1,000th Game

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't miss any details in honoring Kris Letang's milestone.

PITTSBURGH - At this point, it’s customary that if a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins plays in their 1,000th game, the whole team will wear the number during warmups and imitate your routine.

The Penguins re-laced their skates for Sidney Crosby in February of 2021, took after Evgeni Malkin and his stretches earlier this season, and this time followed Kris Letang’s lead as he prepares to play in his 1,000th career game.

The core is nothing if not regimented when it comes to warmups, and it shows when the team honors them in such a way.

Letang led the way for team stretches with some loosening of the legs before a few spins and twists, all while everyone was dawning his No. 58 and the alternate captain’s ‘A.’

The rest of the ceremony included  Letang's son, Alex, taking the ice with the rest of the team before a video tribute and ceremonial silver stick.

Alex also prerecorded a reading of the starting lineup and stood with Kris during the national anthem.

According to head coach Mike Sullivan, he hadn’t discussed the milestone much with Letang, noting there are bigger things to worry about.

The Penguins currently sit a point out of a playoff spot and are in need of as many wins as possible to play more hockey this spring.

Once a ceremony honoring the Penguins’ greatest defenseman is wrapped, it’ll be all business in looking for a huge win.
