According to a report, the Pittsburgh Penguins might soon be looking for a new general manager.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are just over 12 hours removed from officially being eliminated from postseason contention, and the rumors have already begun regarding a change to the front office.

Fans have been begging for the firing of Ron Hextall for months, but now that the Penguins won’t be playing past game 82, one of the most intriguing off-seasons in franchise history is kicking off.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has already put the ‘wheels in motion’ to make major changes in the front office.

Those changes include the firing of Hextall and president of hockey operations Brian Burke.

With only one game left on the ledger for the Penguins, Seravalli isn’t sure Hextall and Burke will make it more than a week before losing their jobs.

Hextall has struggled as an NHL general manager, even before Pittsburgh; in seven seasons as GM only four times has his team reached the playoffs with no series wins.

Now, in 2022-23, he played a massive role in taking a glorious postseason streak by the Penguins and squandering it.

Hextall’s decision making starting with the contract extension of Jeff Carter has been abysmal and none of his moves have helped the team.

The big trade deadline acquisition of Mikael Granlund didn’t pan out one bit; in 20 games he scored a singular goal in garbage time with four assists.

It’s up to FSG to step in and find a new face for the Penguins’ front office; Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang proved they still have what it takes, but the supporting cast needs a massive overhaul.
