Blue Jackets Hire Former Penguins Assistant Coach

Mark Recchi was an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins for three seasons.

P.O. Joseph has a chance to really surprise the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Mark Recchi has had a decorated career in the NHL both on the ice and behind the bench, much of which occurred with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

On three separate occasions during his playing career, Recchi suited up for the Penguins and was part of the 1991 Stanley Cup run.

Following his playing days which spanned 1,652 games, Recchi made the move to coaching.

After being a consultant with the Dallas Stars, the Penguins hired Recchi in 2014 to be a player development coach.

In 2017, Recchi was promoted to director of player development shortly being being promoted to assistant coach.

Recchi’s promotion to assistant came following the departure of Rick Tocchet.

Following the 2019-20 season, Recchi was not renewed with the Penguins and was soon hired by the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach.

Recchi was fired by the Devils in May of 2022.

After not coaching for the entire 2022-23 season, Recchi is back behind an NHL bench with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It was announced that the Blue Jackets have hired Recchi as an assistant coach.

The Hockey Hall of Famer will work with newly appointed head coach Pascal Vincent who was recently hired after the fall out from the Mike Babcock situation.

Recchi has been coaching at various levels in the NHL for almost 10 years and is yet to be named a full head coach.
