The Pittsburgh Penguins should have no problem fighting for the Stanley Cup this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins should have no problem fighting for the Stanley Cup this season.

The 2023-24 regular season hasn’t even started, yet the Pittsburgh Penguins seem to have a great chance at getting back into the playoffs.

During the offseason, the Penguins underwent some pretty big surgery to revamp not only the lineup, but also those in charge in the front office.

Fenway Sports Group brought in Kyle Dubas, and just about every subsequent move is sure to have a positive impact on the team as a whole.

Dubas went out and traded for Reilly Smith to be a more consistent producer in place of Jason Zucker.

Ryan Graves was signed in free agency and brings great size and will be a much more reliable replacement for Brian Dumoulin.

When looking at the bottom six, the Penguins have plenty of new faces that should push the team in the proper direction on both sides of the rink.

Then there’s the centerpiece of the offseason, Dubas’ trade to acquire the reigning Norris Trophy winner, Erik Karlsson.

In one move, Dubas dumped off most of Ron Hextall’s bad contracts and added one of the best offensive defenseman in the game, all while gaining salary cap space.

The Penguins missed the postseason by just a single point last year, and given the proper additions made, they should have no problem getting right back into the hunt.

Sidney Crosby will enter the season hungrier than every to win and could even be set to start one last 100-point campaign.

Early predictions have the Penguins sliding into the playoffs as the fourth team from the Metropolitan Division.

If the Penguins really want a chance to make a run, they might need that home-ice advantage, but stranger things have happened in the playoffs.

Just last season, if the Penguins made it to the postseason, the Florida Panthers would have missed out completely and not gone on their entertaining run to the Stanley Cup Final.

In just a few months, Dubas has turned the Penguins from a floundering team with an aging core to a revitalized squad with genuine championship ambitions.
