Zach Aston-Reese has signed a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes.
NHL training camps begin next week, and former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese is hoping to find a new home. According to CapFriendly, Aston-Reese has signed a Professional Tryout Contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The longtime Penguins fourth-liner spent last season as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Aston-Reese played 77 games for the Maple Leafs last season, scoring 14 points (10G-4A) while averaging 10:56 of ice time.
The 29-year-old winger spent the first five seasons of his NHL career with the Penguins, carving out a role as a defensively conscious forward and reliable penalty killer. His best years in Pittsburgh were between 2019 and 2021, when he was a member of a fan-favorite fourth line alongside Brandon Tanev and Teddy Blueger.
Aston-Reese has accumulated 307 career games, scoring 42 goals and 38 assists, and now hopes to crack one of the deepest rosters in the NHL with the Hurricanes.
