Teams around the league are starting to express their interest in a former fan favorite of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to have multiple roster spots up for grabs entering training camp next week.

After a few months of waiting on a new contract, it seems like teams are starting to come around to the idea of signing former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel.

Throughout the offseason, speculation has been growing that a team like the Penguins would sign Kessel to a small deal to keep him in the NHL.

Kessel has made it clear that he is not worried about continuing his 1,064 consecutive games played streak in tact, he just wants to be on a team in the NHL.

It was reported by Christ Johnston of TSN that some teams around the league are beginning to show their interest in the three time Stanley Cup champion.

With training camps closing in and rosters almost set, teams at this stage of the offseason have a clearer picture regarding their financial outlook.

Johnston believes that Kessel will not be given a professional tryout, rather a full contract at the NHL level.

A real contract not worth a ton of money is probably exactly what Kessel is looking for.

Soon to be 36-years-old and a visible decline in offensive production, Kessel likely isn’t able to demand a ton of money.

While ending the iron man streak is perfectly fine in Kessel’s eyes, he likely wants to play enough to crack 1,000 points in his career.

Kessel currently sits at 992 points, just eight shy of the mark.
