Many fans around the NHL think the Pittsburgh Penguins get special treatment, and Jim Montgomery had some words on the matter.

Many fans around the NHL think the Pittsburgh Penguins get special treatment, and Jim Montgomery had some words on the matter.

PITTSBURGH - The 2022-23 Boston Bruins are putting together one of the best seasons the NHL has ever seen, yet their head coach is hung up on an issue he has with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

According to Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery, he believes that the Penguins benefit from ‘Sid Rules.’

Montgomery believes the NHL likes to follow a set of rules that allows a super star like Sidney Crosby get away with more than the average player.

“You know how there used to be Jordan Rules?” Mongomery asked regarding NBA legend Michael Jordan and the special treatment he may have gotten. “I’ve been here now five times, and something I’m almost sure that’s going to happen… I call it the ‘Sid Rules.’”

These comments were directed in relation to a goal scored by the Penguins that Mongomery and the Bruins challenged.

The Bruins believed there was goalie interference on Jeremy Swayman forcing him unable to make the save on Jake Guentzel.

After reviewing the play, it looks like Swayman initiates the contact with Crosby, then Crosby attempts to adjust his positioning accidentally tapping Swayman in the mask.

Swayman was left immobile from the love tap and the puck easily slid into the net.

In the same statement where he alleged Crosby and the Penguins were getting special treatment, he also talked about how good of a player Crosby is and how he doesn’t think they ended up on the wrong side of officiating.

“I don’t think we were on the wrong end of anything.”

So, Montgomery just wanted to accuse the league of fixing games, despite his team winning? Real Presidents’ Trophy winning stuff.
