The Pittsburgh Penguins made some big additions this offseason and should be right back in the championship discussion.
Training camps across the NHL may be over a month out, but Kyle Dubas already has the utmost confidence in the Pittsburgh Penguins team he has built.
Dubas has a firm belief that the Penguins can contend for the franchise’s sixth Stanley Cup.
The new president and general manager noted that adding a future Hall of Famer like Erik Karlsson doesn’t just add to their chances, but it shows just how much faith everyone has in the group.
The Penguins may have an aging core group of players in Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Sidney Crosby who just turned 36-years-old, but a revamped supporting cast should bring an improved season.
2022-23 was a disappointing year for the Penguins, but they missed the postseason by just a single point.
What Dubas has brought to Pittsburgh should push the Penguins over the edge and back into the dance once again.
As for contending for the Cup, that’s very much a possibility, as well if all things go right.
Crosby, Malkin, and Letang will have a weight lifted from their shoulders when Karlsson hits the ice in black and gold.
A fully-healthy Tristan Jarry has the ability to be a top goalie in the league, and it’s his net.
Karlsson obviously adds much needed defensive scoring, but players like P.O. Joseph and Marcus Pettersson should take huge steps forward this year.
The bottom-six forward group may not score in bunches, but they will be vastly improved in keeping the puck out of their own net.
The Penguins are an improved team; adding Karlsson pushed them from moderately better to a real deal contender in 2023-24.
