The Pittsburgh Penguins swapped prospects with the Anaheim Ducks.
PITTSBURGH - Just because the trade deadline is over doesn’t mean the Pittsburgh Penguins are done making moves to build the future.
The Penguins announced that they acquired defenseman Thimo Nickl from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Judd Caulfield.
Nickl is a 21-year-old defenseman who spent this past season playing for AIK of Hockey Allsvenskan, the second-highest professional league in Sweden.
In 47 games, the Austria-native recorded eight assists and 69 penalty minutes.
Nickl was drafted 104th overall by the Ducks in 2020 and has played 15 games in Sweden’s top team.
Caulfield is a forward that was drafted by the Penguins in 2019 in the fifth round (145th overall) and just wrapped his fourth season of NCHC hockey with the University of North Dakota.
In his final year of college hockey, Caulfield played in 39 games and scored 19 points (10G-9A).
