Kris Letang continues to cement himself in Pittsburgh Penguins History.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have a big weekend ahead of them at PPG Paints Arena. They welcome in the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers on back-to-back days as their fight for a playoff spot continues.
Apart from what is sure to be two intense games for the Penguins, it is an important weekend for one of their longest-tenured players, Kris Letang. Letang is set to hit the 1,000 games played mark on Sunday against the Flyers.
He will become just the third player to hit 1,000 games with the Penguins, behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, and the first Penguins defenseman to ever reach that milestone.
Letang has led the Penguins defense core since taking over that role from Sergei Gonchar in 2010. Since then, Letang has been a workhorse on the back end, averaging over 25 minutes of ice time per game in eight of the past 13 seasons.
The Montreal native has already claimed a spot in Penguins history as a three-time Stanley Cup Champion, but also as top five in points and assists in the storied franchise's history. Before all is said and done, Letang will likely surpass Chris Kunitz and finish in the top ten in goals.
Letang turns 36 in April, but there is plenty of hockey left for the Penguins top defenseman.
