The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to be difference makers for Team USA at the IIHF World Championship.
Team USA is a perfect 3-0 to start the 2023 IIHF World Championship and each game has been won thanks to standout performances from members of the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup.
There are three Penguins on USA’s roster and one of them has won Player of the Game in each of the first three contests.
Goalie Casey DeSmith took the award after the tournament’s opening contest, then Team USA captain Nick Bonino after a two-goal performance in the second game.
DeSmith reached his second Play of the Game following a 30-save performance over Team Germany and helped back USA to a 3-2 win.
After a scoreless first period, DeSmith allowed a pair of goals in the second frame but that would hold off German in the final 20 minutes.
Team USA scored twice in the third to come from behind to stay perfect through the first three games of the preliminary round.
DeSmith stopped 30 of 32 shots and has set himself apart as a clear starter for Team USA in the tournament.
Cal Petersen of the Los Angeles Kings system is the other goalie featured on Team USA.
