It's once again up to the Pittsburgh Penguins to take advantage of a golden opportunity.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby discusses sitting on the outside looking into the playoff picture entering the final week of the season.

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins are back in the driver’s seat and control their own destiny in the final push for the postseason.

A perfectly timed loss from the New York Islanders has opened the door for the Penguins to reclaim a spot in the playoff race with only two games remaining.

Fans can thank the Washington Capitals for doing the job against the Islanders.

For the last week, three teams have been fighting for two Eastern Conference wild card spots, and none of them were willing to budge.

The Penguins have done their part more recently to remain in the hunt by winning a pair of key games, while he Islanders have gone cold with a 5-4-1 record in their last ten.

Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers cruised into their pivotal match against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a six-game winning streak.

The Maple Leafs won, but in overtime giving the Panthers an OTL point to sit two up on the Penguins.

Regardless, it’s now up to the Penguins themselves to make the most of this opportunity.

The Penguins have two games left against two of the worst teams in the NHL; while they cant take the opponent lightly, these are must-win games.
