The Pittsburgh Penguins won't get answers on Tristan Jarry's future this week.
Four days remain in the Pittsburgh Penguins season, and we will know by Thursday if they will continue into the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Whether the season ends this week or further down the line, the Penguins number one question going into the offseason will be goaltending.
Tristan Jarry has had his most problematic season since becoming a full-time NHL goalie in the 2019-20 season. Jarry's performance has varied throughout the season, mainly due to injury issues that have plagued him throughout the year.
His recent performance has been closer to the expectations for the 27-year-old netminder coming into a contract season. Since being pulled against the New York Rangers, the fourth time in nine games, Jarry is 4-3-0 with a .925 save percentage and a 2.14 goals allowed average.
Questions about his inconsistencies haven't been answered and will remain unanswered through the regular season.
With a massive contract negotiation on the horizon for Jarry and the Penguins, there is only one question left. Can Jarry perform in the postseason?
Of course, the only way to answer that question will be for the Penguins to qualify for the postseason. With two games remaining, the Penguins sit outside looking into the playoff picture and will need some help to get into the final field of 16.
The Penguins don't appear built to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup, but the value of answering a major question about their goaltending situation is reason enough to hope for a 17th straight playoff berth.
