Drew O'Connor is the only Pittsburgh Penguins player filing for an arbitration hearing.
Of the 22 players announced by the NHLPA to be filing for salary arbitration, the Pittsburgh Penguins only had one player listed.
Penguins’ forward Drew O’Connor has filed for salary arbitration after being extended a qualifying offer last week.
Arbitration hearings are scheduled to be held from July 20 to August 4.
In arbitration cases, a third-party arbitrator joins contract negotiations to determine a fair contract in both term and price for an expiring restricted free agent.
The good news for the Penguins is that even in an arbitration case, O’Connor shouldn’t be able to demand a back-breaking amount of money.
2022-23 was O’Connor’s first full season in the NHL and he played 46 games and scored 11 points utilized mostly in the bottom-six.
O’Connor is an important piece to the Penguins not only in this upcoming season, but for a number of year into the future.
At only 25-years-old, O’Connor is one of the youngest Penguins on the roster.
